Bluetooth Audio Is Great. Bluetooth Audio Is Not Great.

We’ve been experimenting with Bluetooth audio for years…long before “Bluetooth speakers” became the latest audio fad. There are times when we really like it, but there are also times when we hate it. For example:
  •          When we turn link our iPhone via Bluetooth, turn on Pandora, an nothing happens. Reboot the Bluetooth receiver (yes, acrobatics are involved – the plug is hard to reach), and it plays.
  •          Music has been playing for forty minutes and then simply disappears for 20 seconds.
  •          See above, repeating itself at random, for random lengths of time.

These problems have reached dangerous levels lately in our household. Technological failures can be very emotional. So we’ve disconnected Bluetooth altogether and now connect the iPhone or iPad to our ZVOX 580 sound bar via a good old fashioned headphone connecting cable.
It’s not nearly as cool. And people at parties no longer look at me like I’m a techno-wizard. But the music sounds good and it works every time.
Bluetooth technology is getting better as we speak. When it gets there, ZVOX systems will probably start coming with a Bluetooth option. Until then, we think we’ll stay wired.

I think you might be punishing the messenger for the message. The iPhone does not have the best track record for bluetooth, so you might want to look into that.

I use a cheap android phone from CraigsList specifically for streaming podcasts and Pandora and my DLNA ( I live on UPNP/DLNA) to my ZVOX speakers with a Logitech adapter. I've never had a problem with it.

Hmmm... my first comment did not stick.

I'm not convinced that BlueTooth is at fault. IPhones are not known for having the most reliable BT connectivity.

On the other hand, I have a semi-cruddy Android phone from CraigsList that I use for streaming and it works like a champ to all my devices.

Your mileage may vary.
